Archives ‘Mr. and Mrs. Hicks’ April 13th marks the 50th anniversary of the debut of That’s My Boy. They should have titled it Mr. and Mrs. Hicks. The series — about a regular guy (played by Dick Jones) who dreams of owning his own business and marrying his high school sweetheart (played by Diana Dickerson) — was such an unlikely hit that it would be hard to believe it today if someone told you they watched it as a kid. Not only was it a black-and-white TV show aired at 10:30 on the ABC-TV network, but it was actually an ABC-TV sitcom — it was the first network sitcom to be aired during the weeknight hours — when most of the daytime television programming was religious programs. “That’s My Boy” continued to be broadcast until the series’ cancelation in April 1963, after only 12 episodes had aired. This photo was taken during a filming session for that movie. Dickerson was in attendance at the premiere, but neither Gordon nor Loy Gart was there. Later, after the premiere was over, Walt Disney joined the Hicks’ and the other cast members and had a banquet in a hotel, after which Dickerson and Disney got up on a table and had a ‘Teasing Scene’; this is the photo that appears in the Glamour issue. Here’s a link to Marion Davies’ description of the Hacketts. In the comments of the blog post about the Hacketts, Don Jorgen said, “Gordon and Loy Gart’s careers are well documented. They appeared
